If a person has their gall bladder out how will this change their lifestyle?

You need to research what the function of the gall bladder is in the degestive system. You then need to research what can go wrong with the gall bladder and how doctors can treat this problem. Sometimes doctors operate and remove the gall bladder and the person can go on living without the problems reoccuring. However, you need to research and write about the effects this will have on the persons diet and lifestyle and what effect this will have on the digestive system.

The Gall Bladder is a very imporant part of th digestive system as with out the bile it secreets it will be impossibl for you to break down and digest fats on of the most major changes a person will face if the have their Gall Bladder removed is that they will have to change their diets dramaticly elamanating most carbahydrates and taking a lot of pills to do the job of the Gall Bladder

The gallbladder is a small sac connected to the liver where the bile is stored. The bile is made by the liver and is used to break down fats. The gallbladder stores the bile until it is pumped out into the stomach to digest the food. Problems occur in the gallbladder when some of the bile crystallizes and forms stones in the gallbladder and bile ducts. You can have your gallbladder surgically removed or you can get rid of it without surgery. A person’s lifestyle is mostly the same after they have had their gallbladder removed except they might still have digestive tract problems following surgery. Although these should get better after a few weeks or months. To help your body to digest food you should eat low fat foods, high fibre foods and eat lots of healthy food. You should exercise regularly, and reduce your intake of dairy, and meat products. You should also try to reduce your sugar and white flour consumption.

  3. Eva forgot to mention, although some people may have dietary changes, a lot of people, don’t have changes at all. My Mother 5 years ago, had an ill functioning gall bladder and had hers removed and she can't eat high fat content foods, wheat and excessive sugar. My aunt (who has also had hers removed) has stayed the same. The new diet is not short term. Patients have often found that after eating foods containing ingredients they can’t have, they receive sharp, strict pains around there stomach area. It's an old wives tale that there are "four f's" that are typical for gall bladder issues and you only need one of the four:
    Fair Natural Hair Colour
    Fat
Forty years of age (or close)
    Family Genes
Gall bladder attacks can be brought on by many things and when they do come; they come very suddenly and they are quiet painful. greasy, spicy foods, large amounts of coffee and soft drinks and alcohol are common for this. My Mother's attack was brought on by a supposedly "low fat" ham and pea soup and my Aunt was brought on by bacon and eggs. In the end it really depends with different people’s digestive system and their genetic makeup and the foods they consume.

  4. The gall bladder is a small non-vital organ which aids in the process of digestion and concentrates bile produced in the liver. The gall bladder is approximately 10 cm in length and 4 cm in diameter when fully distended (in adults).
Problems that the gall bladder can cause are; irritation and swelling, it can develop stones within it (one in ten adults in Australia are affected with this), or the passage leading from the gall bladder to the intestines can get blocked. These can all be treated with surgery. There are also herbal remedies to help with this but it is recommended to get surgery.
When getting the gall bladder removed, the doctors cut a long incision just under the rib cage, which is about 12.7 cm – 20.32cm.
You can die from having your gall bladder removed, or you can live. During the ‘elimination’ of the gall bladder, the liver could get cut (you can still live if this happens, it depends on how fast the doctors repair it) or organs around the gall bladder can get infected.
After the surgery it is important for people have a good diet, (eg. liquid foods, less sugary foods) and keep up with regular exercise.

  5. Gall Bladder - Part B

I found evidence that contradicts what Lachlan said. From what I have found and I think Josh said, the gall bladder is a non-vital organ, so it isn't, "impossible to digest fats." My mum has had her gall bladder removed and her diet hasn't changed and she doesn't need any pills.

  6. Gallbladder - Part A

The gall bladder is a pear shaped organ that stores and concentrates bile. It is 3 to 4 inches long (approx) and about 1 inch wide and is located behind the liver on the right side of the rib cage.

    Functions:
Bile is a yellow digestive liquid continually secreted by the liver into bile ducts in varying amounts and consists mainly of cholesterol, lecithin, calcium and bile salts. The function of the gallbladder is to store bile and concentrate it. Bile helps is fat metabolism and also acts as an antioxidant. Eating fatty foods causes the release of a hormone known as cholecystokinin which signals the opening of the sphincter allowing the bile enter into the small intestine.

    Gallbladder Malfunctions:
Gallstones are solid stones (few millimetres to a few centimetres) formed in the gall bladder due to crystallisation of excess cholesterol and bile salts. Older age groups and obese people are more at risk.
Gallstones may cause acute abdominal pain, fever, nausea and other complications due to:
    • Chronic cholecystitis (long-term inflammation of the gall bladder).
    • Acute cholecystitis (acute inflammation or infection of the gall bladder)
    • Jaundice (obstruction to the flow of bile from the liver).

    Treatment
    1. Dissolution of Gallstones
    2. Removal of gallstones
    3. Removal of Gallstones and Gallbladder (cholecystectomy)
    • Laproscopic or keyhole surgery
    • Traditional or 'open abdominal' surgery

    Life after Gallbladder removal
It is possible to survive without a gallbladder. However, some people may suffer from digestive tract complications or postcholecystectomy syndrome as there may not be enough bile stored to properly digest a full meal. They mey experience symptoms such as diarrhoea, gas, abdominal pain, bloating, indigestion, constipation. The liver may become sluggish and there is risk of developing liver stones. The precautions are to follow a healthy lifestyle and eating habits.
If we look at the pros and cons of gallbladder removal, it is definitely a better choice to remove the gallbladder rather than to suffer from gallbladder diseases. Removal of stones may only be a temporary solution.
